Last year, The Turkish Photographic Art Federation (TFSF) organized a competition to support and motivate young photographers who are at a certain photography production level, can produce photographs with a subject or technical integrity, but did not have the chance to exhibit their photographs.

I participated in the competition with a selection of my architectural photographs, which I named “Inter-Arts”.

After the evaluations, TFSF opened an online exhibition named the pre-admission selection, which featured the works of 5 photographers. I am so happy to say that my photographs are displayed in that exhibition.

Although architectural design and photography are two separate fields where visual aesthetics come to the fore, when their historical development is examined, it can be seen that the paths of the two arts often cross. From the fact that the first photographs taken in history are about structures and street silhouettes, which are the products of architecture, to the fact that photography takes place within the theory of modern architecture, especially with Le Corbusier’s discourse of framing the landscape and taking pictures while constructing a building, all these intersection points show that architecture and photography disciplines are in an ongoing relationship. Awareness of this relationship can also offer various opportunities to architects and photographers. For example, while architecture provides a broad subject background for photographers; Photography can also help architects, especially during their education, in fundamental issues of space design, such as being able to read and design space and urban aesthetics through the perception of photography, to think about the relationship between architectural product and environment, to be aware of the effect of the elements that make up the design from the detail to the whole, to perceive the space from the eyes of the user. With the impact of having both architecture and photography education, I have seen the benefit of this mutual relationship in all my works over the years. As someone who has given his heart to both arts, I can neither separate my architecture from photography nor my photographs from architecture nor think of myself as separate from one of the two arts. I am honored to share this selection, which I try to reflect the relationship between photography and architecture, and which I call “Inter-Arts”, with the Turkish Photographic Art Federation and photography lovers.

City and Civilization Workshop – 2022

“City and Civilization Workshop” was held with the contributions of Karatay Municipality, Selçuk University, and Cihannüma Solidarity and Cooperation Association.

In the workshop held at Celaleddin Karatay Congress and Youth Center, subjects such as the urban ecosystem, local government, cities of the future, urban identity and cultural heritage, social life, urban sociology, urban security, and housing typology were discussed. Each discussion took place in a specialized group.

I also participated in the workshop thanks to the program powers that want to include young academician candidates and contribute to their education. By participating in the group’s discussions, which are planned to focus on local government, administration, transportation, and production, I had the opportunity to share my ideas with the authorities on accessibility, participatory management, and disability rights.

It is planned that the workshop outputs will be collected in a report and shared with the local administration and universities. For detailed information about the workshop, you can visit the website of ŞehirVeMedeniyetÇalıştayı.

Mimarhane Ankara

Mimarhane | 2021
Mimarhane | 2019

Mimarhane is a four-year training reinforcement program run by Mimar Sinan Engineers Union. It is prepared for students of Architecture, Interior Architecture, Landscape Architecture, and City and Regional Planning. Simultaneous with academic education, education is given in both the fall and spring semesters. Within the program’s scope, it aims to create professional awareness in students by considering various disciplines in which architecture interacts, both theoretically and practically. It is aimed that students make a more conscious transition to their professional life with conceptual training, experience sharing, workshops, technical trips, and technological and vocational orientation courses. It is aimed to form the idea of a designer who touches every aspect of life and is nourished by every aspect of life in students.

As part of the Mimarhane Ankara program, where I joined the organization team in 2019, we brought together our students in Ankara with influential names such as Can Çinici, Emine Öğün, Ali Uzay Peker, and Aysun Tuna. In addition, we came together with our students studying at different universities in the Architectural Photography classes organized by me.

In our first lesson in 2019, we started class by talking about the relationship between photography and architecture, and then we took pictures together in the historical Ulus region of Ankara. Even though we held our second lesson in 2021 in a digital environment due to the pandemic, we received positive feedback about the class in which I shared my photographic techniques with the students.

Mimarhane continued to work at full speed and gave its first graduates this year. For more information about the work, you can visit the website or the Instagram page, which is managed by me.
